There are many causes of back pain, but thankfully it’s rarely anything serious.

Often even though the reason for the back pain is not serious, it can be very painful. it is also very common; over 80 percent of the population will experience an episode of lower back pain at some time during life. The strongest known risk for developing a low back pain episode is a history of a previous episode. Low back pain, like medical conditions such as asthma, is rarely “cured”, but it is a condition that can be managed well with the appropriate advice and treatment to limit its intensity and how often we experience it.

How common are serious causes of back pain?

Our chiropractors have undergone extensive training to take a thorough history and examination to categorise your pain to ensure that the back pain is not due to a serious spinal disease such as infection, cancer, fracture, or inflammatory disease. Although very rare (0.01% of cases), if they have suspicion that your low back pain may be cause by one of the above, they will refer you onwards to the appropriate healthcare professional so that you get the best care possible in a timely manner.
